What has been done to it for XC racing??

1.SHOCKS- We put on TCS long travel 19" No-Preload front shocks set up for XC racing. Each front shock has 4 springs and weigh 1 to 2 lbs less than the large body stockers. The rear now has 2 springs and is No-Preload by TCS. Notice in the pics how much lower the quad sits.
  2. A-Arms -The A-arms are custom made to give us a better shock mount location, tons more wheel travel, full adjustability (camber and caster), and the ability to use longer no-preload shocks. They also narrow the front to be as wide as a stock TRX250R. Great for not hitting trees!
  3. Swingarm -The rear end is also much improved. We put a stock length custom made chromoly swingarm with a relocated shock mount for more travel and a more progressive travel. The change in the ride is absolutely amazing! No more hitting your airbox with your swingarm.
4. Jetting - Of course we rejetted the stock 38 Keihin Air Striker (which made a huge difference). This carb is top of the line for 2-strokes. If you have only seen or been on a stock Gas Gas, you have no idea the huge change this makes!
5. Make it lighter - The claimed weight on it stock is 365lb. We removed the lights and a bunch of other unneeded parts to reduce weight.  The quad is very " flickable" now.
6. Steering Stabilizer - We put a Denton stabilizer on it.  The 2nd stiffest click seems to work well.
7. Tires & Wheels -   Since the stocker comes with 4 ply Razrs, for this type of racing  6ply Holeshots or 6ply RAZRs would be a good idea. Beadlocks might also be a good idea if you are going to run it in the rough stuff.
Is it fast?
Yes! I took it out to the Lone Star GNCC race in Texas ( round #1 of 04 GNCC). The Gas Gas ran extremely strong. Tons of low end when the power valve is shut,  I could lug it in the woods and when climbing some of the steep rocky hills at this race. Being able to lug it so low made for less shifting overall and gave better traction when climbing. On top end, I didn't have any problems out powering other quads on straights where you could open it up, which made for quicker passes.  It will easily outrun any R < 330cc. I have not raced against any 330s, but I know it would out run the PRO-X 330  I used to have on my R.  I was amazed at the power and the wide powerband.
How is the motor?
Great!  Once I jetted it in, It is like 2 quads in 1. The top end screams like a banshee yet the low end pulls like a high compression 4 stroke. The motor really doesn't need anything. Top speed is at least 75mph according to the speedometer. This is the way the 250R should have been. The motor is more compact and lighter too. We do know that companies like LRD are working on performance mods for them. As soon as any of these parts are available, we will post them.
How does it handle now?
Extremely good. The added wheel travel is very noticeable. The quad hooks up better and the front tires carve better turns.  No pushing from the front, and the steering is not heavy like the stock ones. The a-arms took care of the excessive caster which makes the stock ones turn so stiff. The swingarm alone made a huge difference.  It does not go through its travel as quickly as stock. It also turns quicker and lighter.
The shocks made a huge difference!! The fronts have 4 springs and the rear 2. I can now put as much sag in it as I want which leads to better cornering. The shocks can now handle race speeds and jumps, cadillac style.  There really isn't anything I could complain about with its setup now.
To run XC width (45") and be able to keep the adjustable stock axle on, you can either turn your wheels inside out or use the 4in 5out off set from HIPER. On the front I run a 4 in 1 out offset for best handling. For this GNCC I ran Holeshot XCR front and rear without any failure.
What does it need to be GNCC XC race ready?
After the mods I have done... thats a good question! It already has the skids, chromoly arms, frame, long travel shocks, steering dampener, no-preload, increased wheel travel, tether kill switch, large capacity tank.....I did not need to fuel during the race. This quad is ready for the GNCC.
What is next?
For XC, we would probably put some Hi-per carbon fiber wheels on it . Also I need to get riding more. After not riding much since the last MHSC (months), I could not push the Gas Gas like it wanted to be due to being a bit out of shape for this rough race.

Look at all of that wheel travel with the new arms, 19" shocks at 45" wide!! To show the Wheel travel I lifted the front end in this pic so it wouldn't sag.
Where can I get the parts?
Right here !! We have raced every part that we used on both of the 2 Gas Gas quads we set up. Click Here !
